  • On horse archery Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I'm doing some work involving DW style knights, horse archers etc and thought I might add my twopenneth.

My experience at both horse riding and archery is 99% theoretical, but I agree doing both at the same time must be hard - however to class this ability as a skill of the mighty is to suggest every horse archer in all the armies of antiquity was 8th rank minimum just doesnt ring true for me. I've no doubt most of them couldnt hit a cows bum with a banjo when it came down to it, but firing volleys into massed ranks of enemy troops makes accuracy less important.

Being particularly skilled in one area isn't something the DW system does well, and to keep in the general spirit of the system you have to assume the character gets better at everything they do with general experience - therefore, a 5th rank character is going to be a better horse rider than a 1st rank one.
So for horse archery what I'd do is apply a -2 slow / -4 fast moving target penalty for the archer, but allow the character to have their rank as a positive modifier to reflect their ability to control their actions whilst mounted.
