(Golden Dragon 1)
Basic InformationA creation of sorcery, Miasmoids are an excellent source of cheap, handy ready-made henchmen. To conjure a Miasmoid, a spellcaster simply burns a specially-prepared powder, from which issues forth thick smoke that coalesces into a 'solid' figure that can perform menial tasks (GD1 s163). Like it's distant cousin the Golem*, the Miasmoid is a very dim-witted creature that cannot speak - only able to understand the simplest of commands, such as "Destroy them!" and "Kill them!" (you get the picture...). Although the Miasmoid can dish out a significant amount of physical destruction, it can actually be defeated very easily due to it's gaseous origins; high winds or similar air disturbances can tear apart the Miasmoid and render it helpless (GD1 s65).
See the entry on Golems* for an idea of how to approach Miasmoid creation (
BES pp64-65). However, Miasmoids are significantly cheaper to create than Golems* - both in time and effort.
AppearanceMiasmoids are restricted to a single form that is selected and bound to the invocation powder while it is being prepared. However, Miasmoids usually appear as hulking muscle-bound humanoids - all the better to pulverise their Master's troublesome opponents (GD1 s163).
Known or Supposed OriginsIt is unknown which
sorcerer* was the first to create a Miasmoid, but it appears that the secrets to their construction were originally uncovered in the Ta'ashim lands. Since that time the secret has been transported back to Coradian* lands and today it is possible that one might encounter these sorcerous creations even in
Ellesland* or
Mercania*.

Notes
It is possible that with experimentation a
sorcerer* may be able to create other variations of Miasmoids but the results of such experiments may well have unforseen complications.
