Hello all..
New here but great place to find...Thanks to the Cobwebbed Forest site! Now if only I could find all my old original 6 DW books...Guess I will have to check finances and see if I can purchase all the new materials! Anyway my question is..Has anyone ever tried to..or thought of making a conversion of the game in computer fromat using the above mentioned games....NWN 2 would be ideal for a multiplayer type game..with DM's etc. for an ongoing persistent world..and likes of Skyrim or even Oblivion would be a great base for a single player project maybe?A lot of work etc. in fulfilling either of these but..always struck me that this setting is one of the best for being a dark fantasy with some realism based dark gritty atmosphere!Always thought adventures in the lands of Albion would be amazing..as it's such a richly realised setting.. As a sidenote..where some see Cornumbria as a mix of Ireland,Wales and Cornwall..alwasy had Ereworn down as Ireland myself..with Cornumbria being the Celtic lands of Dark Age Britain......Cornumbria's very name says to me Cornwall and Cambria..

This seems an obvious and mildly nitpicky overlook, but shouldn't Elfsight be added to the list of Elvish abilities? Also, what does their "Marksmanship" ability do? I can't find such a skill in any of the Professions, though I may have just overlooked it.

Hi all,
I am new to the message board and will like give a warm greeting to all :) I am on the verge of starting my campaign, but have decided to see if I can include a grid conversion during combat as my players have very nice figurines that they will like to depict as they are fighting, and a simple grid conversion can immerse them more in the heat of battle. Are there any existing house rules/mods where a grid conversion regarding movement, spells and character skills have already been implemented successfully in a game? Any comments or insight on this? Thanks!

Once upon a time, so the story tells, Klaus brought joy and happiness to the world. Generous to a fault, he gave gifts and toys to all. No longer.
'Twas the night before Christmas - a dark and wintery scene, indeed... The windows of a wooden shack spill a yellowing glow onto the thick blanket of snow that covers the ground, and from the darkness emerges a stout figure dressed head-to-toe in red. His heavy overcoat sways leadenly in the frozen night air, a large hood painting his face in deep shadow save for a long bushy white beard. Huge red mittens and black boots cover his cold hands and feet. Behind him he slowly drags a huge red cloth sack - all lumps and bumps at awkward angles. He stops and stares at the hut, and drops the sack. Klaus never been quite the same since his wife died. Now he's always... hungry for new company. Why does he wear red? It's to hide the blood stains, of course, though he stopped caring about the deep red stains in his beard a long time ago. He stands and reaches into his great coat, his powerful gnarled hands carefully remove a wickedly-curving blood-spattered butcher's blade that glints in the pale light. Above the blustery wind can be heard the sound of a low and throaty chuckle: "Ho, ho, ho..." Merry Christmas! |

Hi all
First time here. Long time acquaintee with DW (have had the original book set since the late 80's), and have recently had reason to come back to DW. One thing that has taken my fancy is trying to create a DW hack that might make the system serviceable for use with the HârnWorld setting. I've been coocking up stuff over the past weeks, and they are now about ready to face comment ;-). Right now they reside elsewhere ( http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/harndw ), but if people see something interesting those bit might very well migrate here - some of it is not very setting specific to Hârn and might be useable by someone here. Someone interested in helping testing this thing can go here: http://rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=48205&date=1318332559 Otherwise glad to be here :-) Regards, The Wrathchild

a martial order, fighting the good fight in the name of the True Faith and Albion? Or some Want someone who just mouths the words, cannot remember the bits you kneel down for in church and uses the faith as a excuse to pillage and plunder (a sort of get out of jail free card. Don’t knock it, it worked for the Templers)
The miltary orders in usually have a strict code of conduct, the Templers having the famous latin rules that limited the the clothes they could wear, the people they could associate with, their prayers and just about every aspect of their lives. As members of the military orders they are able to expect shelter and sustanance lfrom other members of their faith but have the obligation to defend fellow believers. To model this type of character I’d suggest susing the Knight profession and allowing them a bonus of plus 1 attack for every 2 or 3 ranks against the unholy enemies of their faith . They should also have to roleplay a code of behaviour they must adhere to . Failure to do so or act conatry to accepted morals will result in the loss of this bonus. for background use the Knight table s and as suggested by other increase the the chance of literacey by 15%. Bachille to basic level For a Knights Hospitaller type swap the attack bonus to being able to provide a healing equivalent to a lessor healing spell rank types a day. For your magic spell type Monk/preacher than use a mystic with added languages and automatic literacey (comes from copying all those book by hand ) and mystic spells adapted to the type of religeon. Previous authors have provided some really good spell/ effects in the rituals ao id suggets folding them into the mystic list and dropping those that dont fit. I would suggest the mystic as the PT fatigue roll can simulate limits of a pcs belief. maybe thats what really happened to Father Merrick in the exocist lol

I dont think we really need preists as a profession. As Dw is based on medievil history, rather than the tradition of D&D and its clones, I think we should look at the preist as a social status rather than a class in itself. After all not all knights are nobles, they have just have a trained and strategic appraoch to combat and warfare as a whole.
examples from literature, cinema and history Ivanhoe by Walter Scott gives us two interesting and contrasting types of priest in the Clerk of copmanhurst (drunken, violent, and whose faith is match only by his profanity and capacity fpr alchol) and Prior alymer (a soft effamante scheming politician and coniveer) Kingdom of Heaven directed by Ridley Scott provides us with the image of the Knights Hospitaller (wise, martially adept and humanistic in their view of the world) and the Templers (religiously motivated bigots and fanatics) Gaming gives us the catch all Clerics of TM game (inc) and various spell lists to differentiate between faiths and the Paladins, a sort of politically correct templer Historically we are all over the place. Odo of Bayeaux (archbishop andand mace swinging brother to William of Normandy/ William I of England). Hugues de Payens, the founder of Knights Templer. Monks (numerous orders), Chaplains, castle preists, Bishops & cardinals (Wosley and various Borgias)

| OBorg | On horse archery | 3 | Jun 9 2011, 7:25 PM EDT by wimlach | ||||

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I'm doing some work involving DW style knights, horse archers etc and thought I might add my twopenneth.
My experience at both horse riding and archery is 99% theoretical, but I agree doing both at the same time must be hard - however to class this ability as a skill of the mighty is to suggest every horse archer in all the armies of antiquity was 8th rank minimum just doesnt ring true for me. I've no doubt most of them couldnt hit a cows bum with a banjo when it came down to it, but firing volleys into massed ranks of enemy troops makes accuracy less important. Being particularly skilled in one area isn't something the DW system does well, and to keep in the general spirit of the system you have to assume the character gets better at everything they do with general experience - therefore, a 5th rank character is going to be a better horse rider than a 1st rank one. So for horse archery what I'd do is apply a -2 slow / -4 fast moving target penalty for the archer, but allow the character to have their rank as a positive modifier to reflect their ability to control their actions whilst mounted.

As to the FATE suggestions.
As mentioned LoA is just a real big bag of options to build from and so if a custom build was needed would make for a excellent starting point. Also as its a C7 product it has a good fan base on top of the existing FATE community and has a solid RPG company behind it.
